UMW - United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women is a community of women whose purpose is:

• To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ
• To develop a creative supportive fellowship and
• To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

General unit meetings are held 4 times a year. The times vary and are publicized in "The New Spirit" and the weekly church worship bulletin. The UNIT meetings include worship programs, business meetings and fellowship.

5 circles meet monthly either in homes or at the church. There are morning, afternoon, and evening circles offering an opportunity for Bible and mission studies, spiritual focus and enrichment.

A noontime Brown Bag lunch is held most 4th Tuesdays from Noon to 1pm during the year . All church members and the community are invited. Interesting, Informative guest presenters have generausly given their time and talent speaking about their work and expeariences on a wide range of subjects including: a Medical. Team working in Tanzania; Adult leaders of the Apalachian Service Project mission team; a report of a Rochester School Board Member; Volunteer representatives spoke about a resale store; and more.

All women are encouraged to attend School of Christian Mission at St. Johns University near St. Cloud, MN each summer where the studies for all United Methodist Women (and men) all are introduced- a spiritual growth study, a geographic study and a general study are introduced by trained leaders.

Rummage sales are held twice a year for the local financial commitment to the Pledge to Mission - this is a money making difference in the lives of women, youth and children. Twice a month in the winter, a group of women meet at church to make quilts for the needy of our community.

A Christmas cookie sale is held in December for the commitment to mission.

Women of the UNIT conduct an annual UMW Sunday at both worship services, as requested by the Minnesota Conference of United Methodist Women, who select the theme and provide the resources.
