Parish Nurse Ministry

CUMC has two Parish nurses; Ann Loth and Pat Hrabe who have each completed an Accredited Parish Nurse preparatory program.

Ann is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cardiology at Saint Mary's Hospital.

Pat is a Public Health Nurse with Olmsted County and is a Waivered Services Case Manger (state/federal programs) for the Elderly and disabled.

The role of the Parish Nurse in working with the congregation includes:

  • Visiting members in their home, the hospital or a nursing care facility
  • Counseling members on health- related issues
  • Meeting with members to provide information, referral and assistance with obtaining health services, to seek alternate living arrangements or other health care needs
  • Health screenings
  • Teaching/leading a class on health/wellness topic(s)
  • Helping persons understand the relationship between mind, body and spirit
  • Arranging volunteers in coordination with the Congregational care volunteers
  • Referring to the prayer chain and/or for congregational prayers
  • Coordinating the Health Fair with support of the health cabinet members

There is no charge for any service provided by the Parish Nurse.


Home, Hospital and Nursing Home Visits

Pat Hrabe is available on Thursday to make visits to members. While the Parish Nurse does not provide skilled nursing, discussion of health concerns, teaching re: health care issues, assessing blood pressures, home safety and information/referral for services are some of the supports available. If you have any need please call Christ United Methodist Church and leave a message for Pat to call or to visit you (289-4019 ext. 113). If you have concerns about family members you may also request a visit for information about resources or to explore options and alternatives.

Sunday Morning Screenings

Each Sunday morning following the 9AM-worship service the Parish Nurse(s) are available in the Family Room to visit with you about your health concerns and are resources for information and referral. Blood pressure screening/monitoring is available.

The Health Cabinet

The Health Cabinet is comprised of professionals who are concerned about health and who are committed to the Parish nurse ministry at Christ United Methodist Church. The health cabinet provides support and direction to the Parish Nurse(s). They are actively involved in health promotion activities through leadership in planning and participating in the annual Health Fair.
