Subscribe To Sermon Podcast (RSS Feed)

To subscribe, you will need "podcatcher" software. There are several you can download for free such as Apple's iTunes and Juice (formerly iPodder).

If you have iTunes, clicking below should start iTunes if it isn't already running and should take you to the Cumethodist podcast page in the iTunes Music Store. From there simply click the "Subscribe" button. iTunes will then download the most recent sermon and will be set to automatically download the new sermon each week.

If you have any other podcatcher (or if the iTunes link isn't working for you), you can subscribe manually by copying the following link into your podcatcher software:

http://cumethodist.libsyn.com/rss

For example, in iTunes, under the Advanced menu go to "Subscribe to Podcast ..." and paste in the link where it prompts for the URL. In iPodder, go to the Subscriptions tab, click the + button, and paste in the link where it prompts for the URL.

The direct url to our blog podcasts is: http://cumethodist.libsyn.com/

Frequently Asked Questions About Podcasts

In common use, "podcasting" refers to delivering audio programs over the Internet. These programs are often similar in style and content to radio shows and are typically provided as MP3 files, but they can be any type of audio in any digital audio format. A "podcatcher" is software that allows you to subscribe to a series of related programs such as our CUMC Weekly Sermons and get the new individual programs automatically when they are made available online. Once downloaded to your computer, the programs can be easily transferred to an inexpensive portable MP3 player, allowing you to take them with you wherever you go.

For example, with free podcatcher software such as iTunes or Juice (formerly iPodder), and an inexpensive portable MP3 player such as an iPod, you can:

  • Set your computer to automatically download CUMC sermons each week as soon as they appear on the Internet, by simply subscribing to our podcast
  • The way to subscribe in Itunes is: Click on Advance>Subsribe to Podcast>Paste URL of RSS feed
  • Set your computer to automatically transfer those sermons to your MP3 player
  • Listen to those sermons on your run or commute

Other General Q&A About Podcasting

Q: Do I need to have an iPod to listen to podcasts?

A: No. The term "podcast" was coined because the first podcast software was designed to work with Apple's iPod, but you can use any MP3 player or play the audio right on your computer.

Q: Do I need special software to listen to podcasts?

A: You don't need special software to listen, but you do need special software to subscribe. The standard audio player software that comes with your computer will allow you to listen to the podcast. To subscribe, you need "podcatcher" software such as iTunes version 4.9 or later, or Juice (formerly iPodder). Podcatchers are used to streamline downloading podcasts and copying them to portable MP3 players.

Q: Do I have to use a Mac? A PC?

A: Any computer with Internet access and audio player software will work, including PC/Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.

Q: How does it work?

A: For all you techies out there, a podcast is an RSS 2.0 news feed containing enclosure tags that link to MP3 files or other types of attachments. The RSS feed is a type of XML file containing information about a series of related programs called a "channel" as well as individual programs called "episodes". In our case, the sermon feed contains information about the CUMC Weekly Sermons channel and information about the most recent individual sermon episodes, including links to the actual sermon MP3s. For all you non-techies, dont worry about how it works, just listen and enjoy!
