SESSION DETAILS:

10:15 to 11:00am

Forum-Part 1: Investing in the Power of Connection to Raise Resilient Youth

What if you knew of a way to count what really counts for your child/teen? To count what matters for a child/teen you love?  What if you had a way to see, understand, and act on what the ‘supports research’ tells us teens and young people need to thrive? This session will quickly introduce the Integrative Youth Development framework and then focus most deeply on the ‘Rule of Five’ and how to build meaningful adult-youth connections. Teens welcome too!

11:00am to Noon

Forum-Part II: A Personal Village in Action

In part 2 of the forum, we’ll dive more into how a personal village (a.k.a. a full-color web of support) can look in action. Join Laura Williams as she talks about her own experience with webs at CUMC, and interviews a young adult who actively and intentionally built a personal village to take her into young adulthood.  You are most welcome to attend part 2 even if you missed part 1. We’ll help you catch up!

12:30-2:30pm: It Takes a (Personal) Village: From Safety Nets to Webs of Support

It’s working! Youth and adults are changing how they see themselves and their communities. Caring and connected adults are giving youth the ability to thrive amidst life’s challenges. In this lively and interactive session, you’ll learn how to build webs of support made up of people—an integrated approach that is based upon some of the best social/youth development science on youth thriving, resilience, and avoiding risk behaviors.  Come and find out where a web can take you! Best suited for 12 year olds and above; but everyone is welcome!
